Looking back on last year’s summit in Uzbekistan, which brought together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers, I would like to reflect on a few key points that gave me much to consider.

Uzbekistan ICT 2024 demonstrated the rapid progress which is happening in Central Asia, and the country is gaining momentum in advancement in technologies and innovation. This event reaffirmed my belief that Uzbekistan is on the verge of a digital transformation which offers a wide spectrum of opportunities for British businesses and investors.

One of the key takeaways from Uzbekistan ICT 2024 is the government’s commitment to encouraging a digital economy. With various incentives and approaches to startups, foreign investment, and growing IT sector, Uzbekistan is becoming an attractive destination for tech companies.

The Digital Uzbekistan 2030 strategy aims to improve technological infrastructure, digital literacy and create an ecosystem for local and international technology companies. This aligns with the UK’s commitment to digital transformation and makes Uzbekistan a strategic partner for British businesses planning to enter the Central Asian market.

The  growth of local software development firms, fintech startups,  and AI-based ventures is marking a shift from an economy once dependent on traditional industries to one that  is using cutting-edge technology.

Another key insight I gained from the ICT Uzbekistan 2024 summit was the significance of e-governance and digital public services. Uzbekistan is striving to enhance government operations through digital platforms to cut bureaucracy and boost efficiency. This is an area where British expertise can be valuable. The UK has been a leader of digital governance for years and there is a good room for collaboration in public sector digitalisation and the development of smart cities.

For British companies seeking to enter emerging markets, Uzbekistan presents significant opportunities for collaboration and to play a key role in the digital transformation of the entire region.
